Los Angeles, CA - Ruth Kirkman Tyler, 86, peacefully passed away at home in Los Angeles on July 11th, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 15, 1939, to William and Elizabeth Kirkman in Bend, Oregon, Ruth shared a joyful childhood with her brother Bill in Walla Walla, Washington. She later pursued her passion for nursing at Stanford University. Ruth married Robert Tyler and was blessed with two wonderful children, Jeff and Beth. She continued her journey in healthcare, becoming a Registered Nurse. Ruth dedicated her career to pediatric nursing, serving in public schools and at University Medical Center in Fresno, California. In her spare time, Ruth volunteered her services, bravely navigating rural roads in dense fog to provide essential healthcare to poor migrant farm workers. Her commitment to helping others led her to play a pivotal role in establishing the first Planned Parenthood in Fresno and she continued to champion reproductive rights throughout her life. The Tyler and Kirkman families invite you to honor Ruth's memory at the Kirkman House on August 10 at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Kirkman House or Planned Parenthood.
