Walla Walla, WA - Robert Ellis DeWayne, Jr., of Walla Walla, Washington, passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on November 24, 1953, in Savannah, Georgia, Robert lived a life marked by service, devotion, and a deep love for family and the outdoors.
A proud veteran, Robert served nine years in the United States Navy. After his military service, he built a successful career as a software engineer, using his skills as a developer to help support and uplift fellow veterans through his work at the Department of Veterans Affairs and later as a contractor.
Robert had a passion for Search and Rescue and was always ready to lend a hand when others were in need. He loved hunting, being in the outdoors, and especially riding motorcycles. He was a recent member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA), where he rode as often as he could with his fellow combat veterans. These were brothers and sisters who shared his commitment to service and camaraderie.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Robert was a man deeply devoted to God, and he lived his life with integrity, humility, and a desire to help others.
Robert's memory lives on through his beloved bride, Tonya DeWayne, and his children: Brandon, Chris, Nichole, Leum, and Kelsie, along with Brandon and Bailey from his marriage to Tonya. He was a proud grandfather to Ellie, Maci, Peyton, Tristan, Tamara, Georgia, Alayna, Madison, and Zachary. He is also remembered by his mother, Delorese, and his sister, Janice. He will be cherished always for his strength, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family, faith, and fellow veterans.
A memorial service will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Walla Walla or Umatilla Search and Rescue in Robert's memory.
