Laurie Ann Maguire Obituary

Shoreline, WA - Laurie Ann Maguire

September 09, 1945 - February 20, 2026

With her family by her side, Laurie Ann Maguire passed peacefully on February 20, 2026, shortly after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. She was 80 years old.

Laurie was born on September 9, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the shadow of her family's World War II Internment. She was raised in Walla Walla, Washington, by her parents, June and Frank Hamada, alongside her three brothers and within a large, close-knit extended family. After graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1964, she attended Eastern Washington University.

Laurie became a mother in 1968 with the birth of her daughter Kim, a role that became central to her life. Laurie moved to Skagway, Alaska, with her first husband, where she operated the Igloo Bar while raising Kim and welcoming her second daughter, Kristy, born in 1976. After 14 years in Alaska, Laurie returned to Walla Walla with her daughters and married her husband of 46 years, Brian. In 1982, she welcomed her third daughter, Erin.

She deeply loved Walla Walla and devoted herself to the community through her work at the Washington State Penitentiary and 13 years volunteer cooking with the "Leftovers" for the Rescue Mission. Laurie had a special passion for patients of the St. Mary's Cancer Center where she worked and was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for the American Cancer Society in New York City.

Above all, Laurie took immense pride in her family. She went to great lengths to always feed and welcome the many people who came to her home for celebrations, holidays and friendship. She will be remembered for her steadfast love of her family, her quiet strength, and her relentless care for others.

In her final years, Laurie lived with Alzheimer's disease and was lovingly cared for by her husband, Brian.

She is remembered by her husband, Brian; her daughters Kim (Joe), Kristy, and Erin (Ryan); her five grandchildren, Joseph, Darryl, Alyssa, John, and Jūn; and three great grandchildren, Trenton, Bjorn, and Freja. She is survived by brother Frank Hamada (Michelle); brother Barry Hamada; and her sister-in-law; Kathy Hamada. She is preceded in death by her mother, June Hamada; her father, Frank Hamada; and her brother, Randall Hamada.

A celebration of life will take place in Walla Walla in the spring. Those wishing to make a gift to honor Laurie's life may do so by contributing to Gentiva Hospice or American Cancer Society. Condolence messages can be sent to her family at 350 N 190th St Apt 202A, Shoreline, WA 98133.
