Gregory Takumi Hara Obituary
Walla Walla, WA - Gregory Takumi Hara passed away on the morning of April 19th at his home in Walla Walla.
Gregory, also known as Greg to his friends or "Pop" to his children and adopted Walla Walla family, was born on May 5, 1948, in Hayward, California. He was the 11th child of Jack and Ito Hara. He enlisted in the Army as a medic during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Army, he earned a bachelor's degree from San Jose State University and began his career as a radiology technician. In the 1980s, when MRI became commercially available, he trained on MRI technology and worked as an MRI and CT technician for over 30 years until he retired from Walla Walla General Hospital in 2012.
Greg married Mary Frances Abruscato on August 5, 1989. Mary Frances was the love of his life, and their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Greg never stopped mourning Mary Frances after her death in 2008.
In retirement, Greg spent time caring for his garden and home, visiting family, watching classic movies, dining at local restaurants, and running daily errands.
Greg was appreciated for his intelligence and sense of humor. He and Mary Frances taught their three children the value of laughter in difficult situations, and it is a lesson that is
carried on today.
Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Hara, his parents, Jack and Ito Hara, and ten siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Province of Olympia, and Meaghan (Jonathan) Devlin of Simi Valley, California; son Seth (Stephanie) Ryal of Patuxent River, Maryland; granddaughter Audrey Frances Ryal; grandsons Theodore and Franklin Devlin, and Everette and Israel Ryal; and his adopted Walla Walla family, Jodie McNeil- Carter, Thomas McNeil, and Melissa Nielson, his brother Kay Hara and sister Vivien Hara of California.
The family would like to thank St. Mary's Medical Center and Walla Walla Community Hospice for the care they provided at the end of Pop's life. Donations in his memory can be made to the Providence St. Mary Foundation or Walla Walla Community Hospice.
The family would also like to thank his friends at the Plaza Way Baker Boyer branch (hopefully your paper consumption drops a little now), Postal Annex, Clarette's, and Applebee's.
Family and friends are invited to share memories of Gregory and sign the online guestbook at mountainview-colonialdewitt.com.
