Dayton, WA - Clyde R. Wallingford, a beloved father, grandfather, partner and friend passed away on his 76th birthday, May 18, 2025 in Dayton, Washington, a place he had called home for his final years.
Clyde was born on May 18, 1949 in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. He was a man whose life was defined by dedication to his family, a long and respected career in law enforcement, and a deep love for the great outdoors. He grew up in Milton-Freewater, where he developed a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, camping and the serene beauty of the mountains.
Clyde dedicated 38 years of his life to the Washington State Penitentiary, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, he also served as the president of the penitentiary's union, advocating for his fellow officers. His commitment to service extended to his community, where he was an active member of the Milton-Freewater Elks Lodge, achieving the position of Leading Knight.
Family was the cornerstone of Clyde's life. He was a loving father to his children; Peggy Wallingford, Corey Wallingford and Rob Shell. He was married three times, first to his high school sweetheart and the mother of two of his children, Sharon LaRue Wallingford, and later to Evelyn Wallingford and Patricia Wallingford.
In his later years, Clyde found companionship and happiness with his surviving partner, Deborah Lawrence.
He was a proud and doting grandfather to Lindsey, Jessica, Allyson and Abby Wallingford, Minet Aalbers and Cameron McIntosh. He also cherished his role as a great-grandfather to Madelyn, Hadley, Elijah, Stella, Dakota and Grayson. He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Morgan.
Clyde is survived by his brother, Richard Wallingford. He is preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Butherus.
Clyde's legacy is one of strength, integrity and a profound love for his family and the natural world. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to knowing him.
